The first 2017 Ford Fusion Sport models are on the ground, and the results are in: if you’re in the market for a family sedan with a serious wild side, you can’t do any better than this.
First, we got the unexpected – a stylish, sporty, smooth-driving family sedan – on steroids. And as it turns out, that’s a very good thing.
Commuting, carrying groceries, hauling family, friends, and pets – these are the things that the vast majority of drivers need a car for in the first place. Rather than creating a variant of a brilliant commuter car that drives like something that would be more at home on the track than the freeway, Ford has created the perfect vehicle for the person who want a daily driver than can be a kick in the pants when you want it, and a family commuter when you need it.
Sporting all-wheel drive and a twin-turbo V6 generating 325 horsepower and a frankly-astonishing 380 lb-ft of torque, the Fusion Sport is more car than almost anyone needs packed into a functional package. It’s not coming for BMW’s head, but it does laps around cars that are branded as performance vehicles, but has the kind of safety technology that parents dream of.
It may be overstating things to say that the Fusion Sport gives you the best of both worlds – it’s not about to beat a Mustang GT on the track, and it’s not going to beat an Escape for cargo space – but it packs enough performance, luxury, and technology to fight for the crown of best sedan, and it just makes you feel young & wild at the same time. Two-thumbs up on this baby!
