Ford’s giving Toyota a run for its money when it comes to popularity among consumers. Detroitnews.com reports Toyota’s crown is slipping as shoppers question the Japanese auto maker’s quality over the past half decade. The website quotes Tom Libby, an automotive analyst with IHS Automotive, as saying, “Before 2010, Toyota’s image was bulletproof, and while it is still strong, it’s not rock solid and as perfect as it was before. It now appears their march forward has been slowed.” Retail registrations show consumers who otherwise might have purchased the Toyota Camry or Corolla are now leaning in favor of the Ford Fusion and Escape.
